Eclipsing Empire:  Paul, Rome, and the Kingdom of God

A 12-session DVD based study exploring fresh insights into Paul’s message of the Kingdom of God, its challenge to Roman imperial theology, and the apostle’s radical relevance for today. In the first century, the titles of Caesar were: Divine, Son of God, God, God from God, Lord, Liberator, Redeemer, and Saviour of the World. If those titles made sense to many when proclaimed of Caesar how did they make sense to any when announced about Jesus?

You are invited to join us in Room 4 of the Samworth Centre on Tuesdays, 7.30pm to 9.00pm beginning on Tuesday 21st February. Open to all, if you want to know more have a word with us, give us a ring 01664 853302, or e mail peterstribblehill@btinternet.com ~ Joy & Peter Stribblehill

OTHER NEWS AND INFORMATION

Church Watchers ~ St Mary’s, Melton ~ Due to recent retirements we are looking for people who may be able to help with this valuable service.
It is essential that we are able to keep the church open so that visitors can enjoy our beautiful building and have somewhere to come for prayer and contemplation.
If anyone is able to offer two hours occasionally it would be most appreciated.
We can be contacted on 01664 561020.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all current and retired Church Watchers for their help with organizing the monthly rotas ~ Marian & John and Helen.

Parish Magazine distributors are needed for the New Year. If you have some spare time each month and would like to join the team,

please give Ken Mason a ring on 851930.

Theo Mayfield ~ Unfortunately Theo is unwell and has been signed off work. Until further notice, so as not to disturb Theo, please contact Kevin or the Churchwardens with any queries. Thank you

COMMUNICATIONS across the parish do need reviewing. We have all sorts of messages going out through the Weekly News, the Magazine, the Web Site, leaflets and posters in our Churches etc etc. Are you interested in having some input? If so, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact the Rector by next Sunday.

NEW MICROPHONES FOR ST. MARY’S, MELTON. The DCC have decided it’s necessary to replace one roving mic (which serves the chancel and the nave – the old one has died a death!), the pulpit mic (which is totally inefficient) and to purchase a hand-held roving mic. That should improve the sound-quality in the church. Cost will be around £240. A DCC member has offered half of it, if congregation members can offer the other £120 (Gift Aided if possible?). Can we rise to the challenge? Please have a word with the Rector if you can offer.

CAN YOU HELP?

CARE & SHARE HELP NEEDED (4th Sunday each month)

These lunches are enjoyed and looked forward to by those who would be eating alone and enjoy the fellowship and company provided.

All are welcome to join us.

It would be good if we could augment our team of helpers.  Do you feel able to help in one or more of the following ways: shopping, preparing food, serving the meal, clearing away, washing up or providing transport to and/or from the meal? For more details speak to Gillian or Colin Beavis (Tel: 851386)

Musicians Required ~ James would love to hear from you if you are a musician out there who might like to join a new music group to play on the 4th Sunday morning service with him at St Mary’s, Melton. Please contact James Gutteridge.

Pram Club, which meets on Monday mornings in the Samworth Centre, needs help from some extra pairs of hands. If you think you may be able to help, either every Monday, every other Monday or even once a month, please contact Carol Parker (857526) she will be

delighted to hear from you & explain what is involved.

Café @ the Centre ~ Would you like to join the ’Service with a Smile’ team in the Samworth Centre Café. If you can spare a few hours per week, Christine would be pleased to hear from you. Please ring her on 503525 or call into the café.

Plea from Stephen’s Footprints Baby Loss Support Group ~ Do you have any unwanted small sized knitting

needles or any double knit or 4 ply wool in pastel colours that you no longer want or need? Or would you like to help with some knitting or crochet projects? We are now making tiny clothes and blankets for little babies born asleep and born too soon for a local hospital and really need more knitters, crocheters, wool and needles. Wool or needles can be dropped into the Samworth centre office; any volunteer knitters, please email us at stephensfootprints@live.co.uk or call 07773 515124.
